Business Taxes Compliance Specialist

About the role

The Business Taxes Compliance Specialist ensures that businesses operating in California meet their tax obligations accurately and on time. This position supports the Department's mission to collect revenue fairly and efficiently, directly impacting public services across the state.

Key responsibilities

• Review and process business tax filings for compliance with state laws and regulations.
• Conduct audits and investigations to identify discrepancies or non‑compliance.
• Provide guidance and technical assistance to taxpayers and internal staff on tax requirements.
• Interpret and apply California tax statutes, regulations, and administrative rulings.
• Prepare reports and documentation of audit findings and compliance actions.
• Collaborate with other divisions to develop and improve compliance procedures.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, tax law, or a related field.
• Demonstrated experience in business tax compliance or audit functions.
• Strong knowledge of California sales, use, and special tax regulations.
• Excellent analytical and problem‑solving abilities.
• Effective written and verbal communication skills.
