About the role

The Bascom Palmer Eye Institute seeks a Business Operations Manager to lead and enhance the department’s day‑to‑day functions. This full‑time position will oversee budgeting, reporting, process improvement, and staff management to support the institute’s mission.

Key responsibilities

• Manage, coordinate, and evaluate business operations, including statistical reporting, budget support, capital planning, and process improvement.
• Develop and monitor the department’s annual budget, analyze monthly variances, and identify performance‑enhancing opportunities.
• Advance the strategic financial plan and advise senior leadership on execution.
• Formulate departmental policies aligned with university objectives.
• Oversee review, approval, and reporting of all expenditures and financial transactions.
• Create and maintain cost‑effective supply and equipment support systems.
• Monitor contractual obligations to ensure alignment with budget and program goals.
• Assess internal controls and recommend improvements for fiscal integrity and operational efficiency.
• Implement human‑resources actions such as hiring, terminations, and salary administration; recruit, train, and evaluate staff.
• Ensure compliance with university policies and train employees on internal controls.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field or equivalent experience.
• Minimum of 3 years of relevant experience in operational or financial management.
• Strong knowledge of operational management, organizational development, and financial oversight.
• Proven ability to lead teams, communicate effectively, and drive change.

Required skills

• Proficiency with office software and relevant computer applications.
