Building Engineer

About the role

Farbman Group is looking for a skilled and reliable Maintenance Engineer (listed as Building Engineer) to join its team in Birmingham. The role keeps apartment homes safe, clean and comfortable by maintaining, repairing and troubleshooting building systems.

Key responsibilities

• Perform routine inspections, preventive maintenance and repairs of apartment homes, including HVAC, plumbing, electrical and general building systems.
• Respond promptly to resident service requests and maintenance emergencies.
• Monitor building systems and equipment for efficiency, safety and proper operation.
• Coordinate with vendors and contractors for specialized repairs and services.
• Maintain records of work orders, equipment status and supply inventory.
• Ensure compliance with safety standards, company policies and housing regulations.
• Assist with unit turns, prepare vacant apartments for new residents, and help maintain common areas, amenities and curb appeal.
• Help manage maintenance supplies within budget.

Required profile

• High school diploma or equivalent; technical certification or associate degree in maintenance, building systems or a related field preferred.
• 3+ years of experience in residential or multifamily property maintenance preferred.
• Strong knowledge of HVAC, plumbing, electrical systems, appliance repair and apartment maintenance.
• Familiarity with safety standards, OSHA guidelines and housing regulations.
• Willingness to work flexible hours, including on-call rotations, evenings and weekends.
• Valid driver's license and reliable transportation.
