Boiler Turbine Floor Operator

About the role

Amentum is looking for a Boiler/Turbine Control Room Operator for its pharmaceutical team in Groton, CT. The role covers 24/7 coverage on 12-hour rotating shifts on the Dupont schedule, providing expertise in operating, lining up, troubleshooting and performing preventive maintenance on plant utilities such as high-pressure boilers, steam/gas turbine generators and industrial chillers.

Key responsibilities

• Operate three dual-fuel 600 psig industrial steam boilers and their site distribution via the Delta V DCS system
• Run a gas turbine and waste heat recovery steam generator, and manage power generation, distribution and parallel/islanding operation
• Distribute generated nitrogen and manage bulk delivery storage
• Manage return condensate and steam trap systems and ancillaries
• Make equipment rounds, test chemistry, collect data and carry out minor repairs
• Be first responder to alarms, take corrective action on abnormal events and keep logs and records to regulatory requirements
• Pursue continuous improvement and complete required training

Required profile

• High school or equivalent
• CT state OE2 license or ability to obtain one within one year
• 5 years of technical experience in a skilled trade, including operating and maintaining chilled water systems in a large commercial or industrial setting, or equivalent education and experience
• Ability to obtain a security access badge at the client's site
• Willingness to work overtime, holidays, weekends and alternative schedules; a valid driver's license may be required
• Physical ability to lift up to 50 lbs, stand and walk extensively, climb ladders and stairs repeatedly, and wear PPE such as steel-toe shoes and hard hats

Preferred requirements

• Technical degree
• Experience with steam systems, chillers, air handling units, cooling towers, air compressors, heat exchangers, pneumatic controls and building automation systems
• Experience with a CMMS (EAMS a plus)
• Ability to read repair manuals, schematics and drawings, and excellent communication skills
