Board Certified Psychiatrist – State of Georgia

About the role

The State of Georgia’s Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Disabilities is seeking a Board‑Certified Psychiatrist to join the West Central Georgia Regional Hospital in Columbus. This full‑time position offers the opportunity to provide comprehensive psychiatric care to adult patients in both civil and forensic settings within a supportive, interdisciplinary environment.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct thorough psychiatric assessments, diagnose mental health conditions, and develop individualized treatment plans.
• Prescribe and manage psychopharmacological therapies in coordination with the treatment team.
• Collaborate with psychologists, social workers, nurses, and other medical staff to deliver integrated care.
• Participate in case conferences, consults, and interdisciplinary meetings.
• Maintain accurate medical records and comply with state regulations and hospital policies.

Required profile

• Medical degree from an accredited institution recognized by the state medical board.
• Completion of an accredited psychiatry residency program.
• Board eligibility or certification in Psychiatry (American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology preferred).
• Active medical license or eligibility to practice in Georgia.
• Interest or experience in public‑hospital psychiatry, including work with serious and persistent mental illness.
