Bilingual Remedial Speech Teacher (Temporary)

About the role

The Buffalo Public Schools are seeking a qualified Bilingual Remedial Speech Teacher on a temporary basis to support students with speech and language challenges. This position works within the special education framework to enhance communication skills for bilingual learners.

Key responsibilities

• Establish a supportive environment that promotes individual growth in speech and language.
• Provide ongoing speech‑language services to students with disabilities, following their Individualized Education Programs (IEPs).
• Conduct screenings, evaluations, and progress monitoring for speech‑language development.
• Collaborate with teachers, administrators, and support staff to align services with school goals.
• Maintain accurate records, reports, and compliance with Board of Education policies and regulations.

Required profile

• New York State certification as a Teacher of the Speech and Hearing Handicapped or Teacher of the Speech and Language Disabled with a bilingual extension.
• Evidence of certification (PDF or screenshot) must be attached to the application.
• Preferred: New York State licensure as a Speech‑Language Pathologist and ASHA Certificate of Clinical Competence.
• Knowledge of Medicaid regulations, ASHA scope of practice, and federal/state speech‑pathology regulations.

Required skills

• Ability to deliver high‑quality speech‑language interventions for bilingual students.
• Strong understanding of special‑education law and IEP implementation.
