Behavioral Health Counselor

About the role

The Counselor is a dedicated behavioral health professional who provides individual, group, and family services in a trauma‑informed, recovery‑oriented setting. You will work closely with a multidisciplinary team to support client safety, stabilization, and long‑term recovery.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct biopsychosocial assessments and risk screenings following Iowa state guidelines.
• Develop and implement individualized treatment plans aligned with ASAM criteria.
• Facilitate evidence‑based counseling sessions using CBT, DBT, and Motivational Interviewing.
• Respond to clinical crises according to facility policy.
• Document services accurately to meet Iowa Medicaid, commercial payer, and Joint Commission standards.
• Maintain progress notes, treatment plan reviews, and discharge summaries with trauma‑informed practices.
• Participate in interdisciplinary team meetings and utilization reviews.
• Coordinate care with internal medical and recovery staff and communicate with external partners and families.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Social Work, Counseling, Psychology, or a related behavioral health field from an accredited institution.
• Current, unrestricted professional certification in a relevant counseling discipline.
