Bakery Deli Team Leader

About the role

Meijer is looking for a Bakery Deli Team Leader who plans, directs and supervises day-to-day operations across the store's departments, mentors and coaches team members, and drives customer service, sales and store appearance. The position is based in Indianapolis.

Key responsibilities

• Plan, direct and supervise daily operations and act as mentor and coach for all team members.
• Improve customer service and store sales while meeting customer needs quickly and efficiently.
• Maintain store appearance during peak hours, with attention to product presentation and company standards.
• Provide courteous, friendly and efficient service to customers and team members.
• Handle staffing, selection and hiring, promote succession planning and career paths, and document disciplinary actions and discharge recommendations.
• Own the P&L, achieve sales targets and maintain shrink for the department.
• Communicate the Meijer Friendly Initiative in all team meetings and conversations.
• Train team members thoroughly and ensure they complete all required training.
• Promote a safe work environment and perform other duties as assigned.

Required profile

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• 2-3 years of related retail experience.
• One year of management experience.
• Rotational experience in other store areas such as meat, bakery, produce and deli, plus customer service and product flow experience, is helpful.
• Reliable and consistent attendance required.

Required skills

• Clear communication and conflict resolution.
• Ability to manage multiple tasks and analyse financial and statistical information.
• Ability to teach suggestive selling and mentor team members, including hourly workers and team leaders.
• Successful completion of all required certifications.
