Bakery Clerk

About the role

Hy-Vee is hiring a Bakery Clerk in its bakery department in Monticello. The role keeps the bakery running smoothly and smells fresh, preparing and replenishing products, helping customers at the counter and creating a warm, welcoming experience. It is an hourly position open to people aged 18 and older, with no prior experience required.

Key responsibilities

• Greet customers warmly and make them feel welcome in the bakery
• Help customers find products, reach items, carry heavy purchases and take orders at the counter
• Review daily orders and check product freshness, appearance and supply levels during the shift
• Prepare, finish and replenish baked goods, pulling product from the cooler or freezer
• Maintain proper sanitation, keeping the work area clean and organized
• Check in product, put it away and review invoices as needed
• Operate the department register to process payments where applicable
• Remove trash promptly and keep the department tidy
• Work with teammates, follow the dress code, hygiene standards and company policies, and help in other store areas and on special projects

Required profile

• Able to follow written and verbal instructions confidently
• Basic math skills for simple addition, subtraction, counting and recording
• Clear, friendly communication with customers and teammates
• Organization and the ability to keep up with a busy bakery pace
• Less than a high school diploma or equivalent accepted; up to six months of similar or related experience preferred
• Ability to safely use sharp knives and blades, handle heat and burn hazards, and operate a delivery vehicle to DOT standards where applicable
