Automotive Ground Service Mechanic

About the role

SkyWest Airlines, the largest independently owned regional airline, is hiring an Automotive Ground Service Mechanic in Salt Lake City, Utah. You will maintain SkyWest ground equipment and support ramp personnel so that flights arrive and depart safely and on time. The position is full-time and requires working outside in all weather conditions.

Key responsibilities

• Troubleshoot and repair ground equipment such as tugs, belt loaders, pickups, deicing equipment, pushback tugs, bag carts and electric vehicles
• Travel to other SkyWest ground-handled cities to repair equipment
• Prepare and paint equipment, and carry out ramp checks as needed
• Help train apprentices when needed and perform other assigned tasks

Required profile

• One year of automotive or ground service equipment-related experience or training
• Valid, unrestricted state-issued driver's license
• Legally authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship
• Ability to lift 50+ pounds; 18 years of age or older
• Flexible schedule, including split shifts early morning, afternoon, evening, weekends and holidays
• Must follow SkyWest's Guiding Principles, especially Health and Safety First

Required skills

• Basic tool set: metric and standard sockets and wrenches, Allen wrenches, screwdrivers, pliers, impact gun, automotive meter, wire tools, hammer, toolbox and travel case
• Preferred: ASE certifications in brakes, steering and suspension, electrical and diesel engines; basic Microsoft Outlook, Excel and Word; automotive schooling
