Auditor – Asset Recovery Division

About the role

The Asset Recovery Division of the U.S. Department of Justice seeks an Auditor to support civil enforcement and forfeiture efforts across a range of federal fraud investigations. The successful candidate will join a respected team that identifies, analyzes, and recovers assets linked to criminal conduct.

Key responsibilities

• Plan and conduct complex financial audits to uncover potential violations of federal statutes.
• Examine and analyze financial data related to transactions, events, or allegations under investigation.
• Develop detailed financial profiles of organizations, including historical event tracking and record restructuring.
• Assist with witness interviews, proffers, and trial preparation activities.
• Compile documents, physical evidence, charts, graphs, and audio‑visual materials for court use.
• Prepare comprehensive reports of findings with recommendations and supporting exhibits.

Required profile

• U.S. citizen or national; must meet time‑in‑grade and background investigation requirements.
• Bachelor’s degree in accounting or a related field with at least 24 semester hours of accounting coursework (up to 6 hours may be business law).
• Alternatively, a combination of education and at least four years of accounting experience.
• Selective Service registration if applicable and willingness to complete a one‑year probationary period.
