Associate/Editor – Astronomy Books (Hybrid, New York)

About the role

Springer Nature is seeking an Associate Editor / Editor to grow its astronomy, astrophysics and space science book portfolio. Based in New York with a hybrid working model, the role will involve acquiring new titles, managing existing series and collaborating with authors, editors and reviewers.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and execute an active acquisitions strategy for astronomy and space‑science books.
• Identify, solicit and assess book proposals; attend conferences and visit research institutes to source authors.
• Negotiate and finalize publishing contracts.
• Manage selected book series and oversee final editorial preparation for production.
• Plan promotional activities, monitor sales performance and contribute to budgetary and financial planning.
• Maintain a network of external reviewers and advisors, incorporating their feedback into project decisions.

Required profile

• Proven experience in academic publishing, preferably in science or astronomy titles.
• Strong knowledge of astronomy, astrophysics or space science.
• Willingness to travel up to 25‑30% of the time for conferences and author visits.
• Ability to work independently, take initiative and manage multiple projects.
