Job description
About the role
Oliver Wyman, a global management consulting firm and subsidiary of Marsh & McLennan, is hiring an Associate for its Energy practice within Trading Strategy & Risk. The Associate works alongside clients and project team members, manages small teams and provides subject-matter insight to help clients address strategic and operational challenges in the energy sector.
Key responsibilities
- Break down complex problems into discrete tasks and direct junior consultants to the key aspects of each problem
- Plan and execute analysis, identify core issues in complex analyses and craft suitable recommendations
- Work side by side with clients and project team members to move projects forward
- Manage small teams and deliver advice to leadership teams
Required profile
- At least 4-6 years of relevant consulting or industry experience in energy-related sectors, with hands-on experience in asset-intensive or operational environments and across multiple segments of the energy value chain
- Depth in energy and commodities (oil, gas/LNG, power; metals or agriculture) is a plus
- Experience shaping and leading change (operating models, risk frameworks, commercial strategy); ETRM/CTRM implementation expertise is not in focus
- Strong quantitative foundation (derivatives, risk measurement) without needing to be a pure quant; familiarity with AI/ML in trading and risk is a plus
- Executive presence and client-facing potential, as the role advises leadership teams
- Houston strongly preferred; NYC/Chicago candidates considered if open to Houston travel or relocation
- US-based with existing US work authorization (firm requirement)
Required skills
- Strategic problem solving with demonstrable analytical skills
- Outstanding written and verbal communication in formal and informal settings
- Initiative, creativity and aptitude for analytical work
