Associate Director of Operational Excellence

About the role

The Associate Director of Operational Excellence will join Merck's Center of Excellence in the Animal Health Corridor, driving lean transformation and leading high‑impact projects that improve supply, productivity and cost efficiency for veterinary product manufacturing.

Key responsibilities

• Initiate, implement and coach improvement projects using Lean tools such as 5S, Kaizen, Value Stream Mapping and Visual Management to enhance safety, quality, delivery and cost.
• Provide hands‑on support for operational problems and cross‑functional investigations using scientific problem‑solving techniques.
• Lead value‑scouting workshops, larger cost‑saving projects and regional governance reporting.
• Develop and deliver lean training, coach sponsors and stakeholders, and embed continuous‑improvement culture across all levels.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in project management, biology, engineering or a related field.
• 5‑7 years of continuous‑improvement experience in biopharmaceutical manufacturing or quality environments.
• Proven ability to manage multiple projects, adapt to changing priorities and influence senior leadership.
• Strong analytical mindset with experience turning data into actionable insights.

Required skills

• Lean methodologies (Standardization, 5S, Poke‑Yoke, Kaizen, Value Stream Mapping, Visual Management).
• Project management tools and techniques.
• Microsoft Office suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, Project).
• Data analysis and trend visualization.
