Assistant/Associate Professor – Drawing & Painting (Tenure‑Track)

About the role

The Department of Fine Arts at the University of Maryland Eastern Shore seeks a tenure‑track Assistant or Associate Professor to teach drawing and painting within the Applied Design major. The successful candidate will deliver innovative undergraduate instruction and contribute to the department’s research and service missions.

Key responsibilities

• Coordinate painting and drawing courses for the Applied Design major.
• Teach a total of 12 credit hours each semester.
• Maintain regular office hours and participate in departmental meetings.
• Recruit, advise, and mentor students.
• Engage in scholarly research and creative practice in painting and/or drawing.
• Provide service to the department, university, and broader community.
• Foster an anti‑racist, equitable, and inclusive learning environment.

Required profile

• Experience teaching undergraduate fine‑arts courses using student‑centered and innovative delivery methods.
• Demonstrated ability to work with diverse student backgrounds and provide placement or remediation support.
• Commitment to excellence in teaching, research/scholarship, and service.
• Self‑motivated work ethic, flexibility, and ability to work both independently and collaboratively.
