Assistant/Associate Extension Agent – Fisheries & Coastal Issues

About the role

The Assistant/Associate Extension Agent will lead a multidisciplinary educational program focused on sustainable fisheries, coastal wetlands, and water resources across Lafourche and Terrebonne parishes. Based at the Terrebonne Parish Extension Office in Houma, the role supports commercial and recreational fishing enterprises, aquaculture, ecotourism, and private landowners.

Key responsibilities

• Plan, implement, and evaluate outreach and education initiatives for residents, officials, and marine‑related businesses.
• Develop and maintain partnerships with parish governments, state wildlife agencies, federal fisheries services, NGOs, and industry groups.
• Establish advisory committees to guide annual work plans and assess program impact.
• Provide expert guidance on sustainable economic development, wetland loss, storm‑surge resilience, and trade‑related challenges.
• Coordinate with the Marine Extension Project network to leverage resources and share best practices.

Required profile

• Advanced degree (Master’s or higher) in marine science, fisheries management, environmental science, or a related field.
• Demonstrated experience working with coastal communities, resource users, or extension services.
• Strong communication skills for diverse audiences, including policymakers and private sector stakeholders.
• Ability to develop collaborative programs and lead interdisciplinary teams.

Required skills
