EHS / Facilities Specialist

About the role

Applied Materials, a global leader in materials science and engineering, is seeking an EHS/Facilities Specialist to support safety and facility operations at its Benicia, CA site. The role blends environmental health and safety oversight with hands‑on facilities maintenance, ensuring a safe, compliant, and well‑maintained work environment.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct audits and inspections of the facility, checking for unsafe behaviors, equipment safety, and environmental controls.
• Maintain regulatory compliance with OSHA, EPA, and other agencies, manage hazardous waste, and file required reports.
• Promote a proactive safety culture by coaching staff on practical safety practices.
• Perform routine site maintenance, including inspections, repairs of chillers, HVAC, plumbing, and electrical systems.
• Oversee contractor‑supplied services such as janitorial, landscaping, and HVAC servicing.
• Replace ceiling lights, HVAC filters, and water filters as needed.

Required profile

• Technical Diploma with 4‑7 years of relevant experience.
• Physically demanding work requiring standing, climbing, lifting, and use of hand/power tools.
• Ability to work in noisy environments and wear required PPE.
• Proven ability to work with limited supervision and act as an informal resource for less‑experienced colleagues.

Required skills

• Proficiency with hand and power tools (e.g., power drills, power saws).
• Use of diagnostic equipment such as digital multimeter (DVM), ammeter, and circuit testers.
• Basic knowledge of building electrical, plumbing, and wall structures.
• Microsoft Word and Excel for documentation and tracking.
