About the role
The University of Miami/UHealth Department of Neurology seeks a full‑time Assistant Scientist to advance its stroke and neurobiology research agenda. You will work on both basic and applied projects, contributing to publications, grant proposals, and the development of therapeutic strategies.
Key responsibilities
- Design and execute independent research projects on stroke using rodent and canine models.
- Perform reversible middle cerebral artery occlusion surgeries and endovascular procedures.
- Handle and deliver stem cells for experimental use.
- Conduct molecular neurobiology experiments on animal and human tissue.
- Collect, organize, and analyze experimental data; prepare technical reports and manuscripts.
- Write extramural grant proposals and assist with funding applications.
- Mentor junior trainees and present findings at scientific meetings.
Required profile
- Ph.D., M.D., or equivalent doctoral degree (Neuroscience preferred).
- Minimum 1 year relevant experience; 3‑5 years post‑doctoral experience preferred.
- Strong analytical and critical‑thinking abilities.
- Excellent troubleshooting and problem‑solving skills.
Required skills
- Rodent surgical techniques.
- Canine surgical techniques, including endovascular stroke models.
- Stem‑cell handling and delivery.
- Molecular neurobiology methods.
- Data collection, organization, and analysis.
