Assistant Research Professor – Cardiology & Molecular Biology

About the role

The University of Miami Miller School of Medicine seeks an Assistant Research Professor to lead independent, NIH‑ and VA‑funded projects at the intersection of cardiology, epigenetics, and molecular biology. The role focuses on understanding how HIV infection, drug use, and PTSD influence cardiovascular disease and neurodegeneration, and on developing novel therapeutic strategies.

Key responsibilities

• Design and execute experiments investigating molecular pathways in cardiovascular disease and Alzheimer’s disease.
• Analyze data using PCR, gel electrophoresis, Western blotting, immunohistochemistry, and statistical methods.
• Publish findings in peer‑reviewed journals and present at scientific conferences.
• Prepare grant proposals and pursue external funding.
• Mentor postdoctoral fellows and research assistants.
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams within the Stem Cell Institute.

Required profile

• Ph.D. in Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, Genetics, or a related discipline.
• Strong track record of independent research and publications.
• Experience in cardiovascular or Alzheimer’s disease research is preferred.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills.
• Ability to work both independently and collaboratively.
