Assistant Public Defender (Attorney 4) – Griffin Judicial Circuit

About the role

The State of Georgia is seeking an experienced attorney to join the Griffin Judicial Circuit as an Assistant Public Defender (Attorney 4). This full‑time position provides zealous representation to indigent clients in serious felony matters and contributes to the mission of public defense across Spalding County.

Key responsibilities

• Manage all phases of criminal litigation, from investigation and legal research to trial and post‑trial resolution.
• Prepare, file, and argue motions, pleadings, and other court documents.
• Develop case strategies, conduct client interviews, and coordinate with investigators and experts.
• Advocate for clients in courtroom hearings, trials, and sentencing conferences.
• Maintain accurate case files and ensure compliance with court deadlines.

Required profile

• Juris Doctor degree from an accredited institution.
• License to practice law in Georgia or eligibility to sit for the Georgia Bar within one year of hire.
• At least three years of criminal litigation experience, including jury trial work.
• Good standing with the State Bar of Georgia.
• Demonstrated commitment to indigent defense and public service.
