Assistant Professor, Production and Stage Management (Tenure-Track)

About the role

Cal Poly Pomona, in the Department of Theatre & New Dance within the College of Letters, Arts and Social Sciences, is hiring a full-time, tenure-track Assistant Professor of Production and Stage Management. The appointment begins the 2027-2028 academic year and carries a salary range of $86,864-$90,864. The position is on-site in Pomona, California.

Key responsibilities

• Serve as Production Manager for the department's production season
• Mentor and supervise student stage managers
• Teach stage management courses, production practicum courses and other courses based on department needs and faculty expertise
• Propose and realign annual production budget allocations, obtain show rights and distribute scripts
• Oversee production spending and petty cash, schedule production dates, deadlines and spaces, and maintain production calendars
• Lead production meetings and technical rehearsals, and make, track and grade production crew assignments
• Enforce deadlines, facilitate communication between production teams and staff, and promote safe practices in rehearsals and performances
• Support creative problem solving around budget and resources, and help improve production systems
• Take part in university, college and department governance, academic advising, mentorship, committees, budget proposals and grants, and maintain a portfolio of scholarly and/or creative activity aligned with reappointment, tenure and promotion criteria

Required profile

• M.F.A. in Theatre Management, Arts Administration or a closely related field
• University teaching experience and professional experience in theatre management or arts administration
• Potential to maintain an active research and creative program
• Ability to teach stage management, production, technical direction and basic department courses
• Experience with budget management, production planning and staff management
• Preferred: Ph.D., active involvement in professional organizations (e.g. USITT, ARTEMIS), student internship management and applied business management courses
