Assistant Professor of Statistics and Data Science

About the role

St. Olaf College’s Department of Mathematics, Statistics, and Computer Science seeks a full‑time, tenure‑track Assistant Professor in Statistics and Data Science, starting August 2027. The position combines teaching, research, and mentorship of undergraduate scholars.

Key responsibilities

• Teach five courses per year, ranging from introductory to upper‑level statistics and data‑science classes.
• Supervise and mentor undergraduate research projects.
• Promote community‑building and inclusivity within the department and college.
• Provide academic advising and contribute to departmental and college service.
• Engage in collaborative research, including interdisciplinary projects supported by the Center for Interdisciplinary Research.

Required profile

• PhD (or near completion) in Statistics, Biostatistics, Data Science, or a closely related field such as Computer Science, Engineering, Applied Mathematics, Bioinformatics, or Epidemiology.
• Demonstrated interest and background in statistics and data science.
• Commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion and to fostering inclusive excellence.
• Ability to teach courses at all levels and to involve undergraduates in innovative research.
