Assistant Professor of Social & Political Philosophy

About the role

The Department of Philosophy at the University of Texas at El Paso seeks a full‑time, tenure‑track Assistant Professor to begin in Fall 2027. The position focuses on Social and Political Philosophy with a required expertise in immigration ethics, contributing to the department’s interdisciplinary and border‑region scholarship.

Key responsibilities

• Teach undergraduate and graduate courses in philosophy, including social, political, and immigration ethics topics.
• Develop and supervise graduate research, mentoring M.A. and Ph.D. students.
• Maintain an active, peer‑reviewed research agenda aligned with the department’s strengths.
• Participate in departmental, college, and university service duties.
• Collaborate with faculty across disciplines on immigration‑related projects.

Required profile

• Ph.D. in Philosophy or a closely related field completed before appointment.
• Demonstrated ability to teach both introductory and advanced philosophy courses.
• Strong research record or clear plan in social and political philosophy, especially immigration ethics.
• Commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion, with experience working with diverse and first‑generation student populations preferred.
• Ability to work collaboratively across departments.
