Assistant Professor of Philosophy

About the role

The Department of Philosophy at Widener University seeks a tenure‑track Assistant Professor to join its College of Arts & Sciences beginning Fall 2027. The position focuses on undergraduate teaching in logic and ethics, with opportunities to develop courses aligned with the university’s general‑education mission.

Key responsibilities

• Teach Symbolic Logic (sentential and first‑order predicate logic) to non‑major undergraduates.
• Teach introductory ethics and, when possible, business ethics.
• Deliver ASC‑101: Thinking Through, a foundational course for all incoming students.
• Contribute to the Ethical Reasoning certificate and minor programs.
• Maintain an active scholarly agenda appropriate to a teaching‑focused institution.
• Engage in inclusive pedagogy, mentoring, and community outreach.

Required profile

• Ph.D. in Philosophy or a closely related field (required by August 15 2027).
• Demonstrated ability to teach formal logic and ethics at the undergraduate level.
• Commitment to excellent undergraduate instruction and to serving a diverse, first‑generation student body.
• Experience or willingness to contribute to inclusive teaching practices and mentorship.
