Assistant Professor of Clinical Pathology and Laboratory Medicine, Anatomic

About the role

The University of Miami seeks an Assistant Professor to join its Department of Pathology. This faculty position combines clinical service, teaching, and research in anatomic and clinical pathology across multiple campus hospitals.

Key responsibilities

• Provide patient care services at UMH, JMH, and Sylvester Cancer Comprehensive Center, focusing on assigned pathology subspecialties.
• Perform gross examination, tissue sampling, microscopic diagnosis, frozen sections, and autopsies in a timely manner.
• Maintain 24‑hour call coverage as required by the division.
• Teach pathology residents, fellows, and medical students.
• Engage in collaborative basic, clinical, or applied research and pursue external grant funding.
• Participate in departmental quality assurance, hospital committees, and accreditation activities (JCAHO, CAP, CLIA).

Required profile

• MD or DO, board certified or board eligible in Anatomic Pathology, Clinical Pathology, or both.
• Additional board certifications are desirable.
• Active Florida medical license.
• Strong knowledge of surgical pathology, hematopathology, and laboratory medicine.
• Ability to work independently, make reliable diagnostic decisions, and communicate effectively in a diverse environment.

Required skills

• Knowledge of JCAHO, CAP, and CLIA regulations and standards.
• Experience with quality‑improvement methodologies and team‑based process improvement.
• Proficiency in hazardous material management, biohazard safety, and universal precautions.
