Assistant Professor of Clinical Ophthalmology – Retinal

About the role

The Department of Ophthalmology at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine is expanding and seeks an Assistant Professor of Clinical Ophthalmology with a retinal focus. This full‑time faculty position combines patient care, teaching, and research within a leading academic medical center.

Key responsibilities

• Provide medical and surgical ophthalmology services according to rotation and call schedule.
• Rotate to other sites within the University of Miami Health System as directed.
• Educate residents and medical students in clinical settings.
• Maintain high clinical quality, productivity, and departmental citizenship.
• Represent the department with clinicians, trainees, and staff at affiliate and referral practices.
• Develop referral and educational relationships regionally and nationally.
• Participate in national and regional meetings to build a clinical leadership profile.
• Secure and manage funding for translational research, clinical trials, and other academic activities.
• Contribute to quality‑assurance protocols and clinical outcome studies for Bascom Palmer Eye Institute.
• Perform administrative and committee duties as assigned, including CME organization.

Required profile

• Board‑certified ophthalmologist with expertise in retinal disease.
• Demonstrated commitment to clinical excellence and patient care.
• Experience in teaching medical students and residents.
• Active involvement in clinical or translational research.
• Ability to develop collaborative relationships across the health system and with external partners.
