Assistant Professor of Clinical Ophthalmology – Retina

About the role

The Department of Ophthalmology at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine is expanding and seeks an Assistant Professor of Clinical Ophthalmology with a focus on retinal disease. This full‑time, faculty position involves delivering high‑quality patient care, teaching trainees, and contributing to research and departmental service.

Key responsibilities

• Provide medical and surgical ophthalmology services according to rotation and call schedule, including coverage at Bascom Palmer Eye Institute satellite sites.
• Educate residents and medical students in clinical settings and participate in academic activities such as lectures and rounds.
• Develop and maintain referral and educational relationships within the University of Miami Health System and with external practices.
• Participate in national and regional meetings to build a clinical leadership profile.
• Secure funding and conduct translational research, clinical trials, and quality‑assurance studies.
• Serve on departmental committees and assist with continuing medical education initiatives.

Required profile

• Board‑certified or board‑eligible ophthalmologist with expertise in retinal disease.
• Demonstrated commitment to clinical excellence, teaching, and scholarly activity.
• Ability to work collaboratively with clinicians, trainees, and staff across multiple sites.
• Willingness to adhere to university policies, bylaws, and departmental procedures.

Required skills
