Assistant Professor of Classics

About the role

The Department of Classics at St. Olaf College seeks a full‑time, tenure‑track Assistant Professor to begin in August 2027. The successful candidate will teach Greek and Latin language courses, classical civilization classes, and January‑term offerings, including study‑abroad programs in Greece or Italy.

Key responsibilities

• Teach undergraduate courses in Greek and Latin at all levels.
• Develop and deliver classical civilization and interdisciplinary courses.
• Participate in January‑term and study‑abroad teaching opportunities.
• Contribute to departmental service, college‑wide committees, and community outreach.
• Engage students in mentored undergraduate research.

Required profile

• Ph.D. in Classics or a closely related field completed by September 1 2027.
• Demonstrated excellence in teaching and scholarly promise.
• Commitment to advancing diversity, equity, and inclusion.
• Ability to collaborate across interdisciplinary programs such as Enduring Questions, Environmental Studies, or Film Studies.
