Assistant Professor of Broadcast and Documentary Film

About the role

The School of Journalism and Strategic Media invites applications for a tenure‑track Assistant Professor position in Broadcast Journalism and Documentary Film, beginning August 2027. This nine‑month, in‑person appointment involves teaching, research, and service within a Research 1 university.

Key responsibilities

• Teach broadcast news courses such as TV news reporting, producing, sports production, video news production, long‑form video and live studio productions.
• Produce creative works of national recognition in documentary, broadcast news, sports production, or multimedia storytelling.
• Mentor undergraduate, honors, and graduate students, serve on thesis committees, and direct thesis‑level video projects.
• Participate in departmental, college, and university committees and contribute to the Democracy as a Public Good cluster.

Required profile

• Terminal degree in mass communication, broadcast, journalism, film, or a related field by the start date.
• At least three years of professional experience in TV news reporting/producing, documentary production, or live studio productions.
• Demonstrated ability to teach broadcast news courses and expand the program.
• Commitment to scholarly activity, mentoring, and service aligned with the faculty cluster of Democracy, Ethics, and Immigration.

Required skills

• Proficiency with broadcast and documentary software and equipment required for course instruction.
• Ability to secure external funding to support creative production.
