Assistant Professor of Broadcast and Documentary Film

About the role

The School of Journalism and Strategic Media at the University of Arkansas seeks a tenure‑track Assistant Professor to teach broadcast journalism and documentary film, beginning August 2027. This nine‑month, in‑person appointment combines classroom instruction with scholarly and creative production.

Key responsibilities

• Teach broadcast news courses such as TV news reporting, producing, sports production, video news production, long‑form video, and live studio production.
• Produce creative works of national recognition in documentary, broadcast news, sports production, or multimedia storytelling.
• Mentor undergraduate, honors, and graduate students, serve on thesis committees, and guide thesis‑level video projects.
• Participate in departmental, college, and university service, including committee work and collaborative research initiatives.

Required profile

• Terminal degree in mass communication, broadcast, journalism, film, or a related field by the start date.
• Minimum three years of professional experience in TV news reporting/producing, documentary production, or live studio production.
• Demonstrated ability to contribute to the Democracy, Ethics, and Immigration faculty cluster and engage with the Democracy as a Public Good initiative.

Required skills

• Proficiency with broadcast and documentary production software and equipment.
• Ability to secure external funding for creative projects.
