Assistant Professor of Biology – Animal Physiology

About the role

The Biology Department at Carleton College invites applications for a tenure‑track Assistant Professor position in Animal Physiology, starting September 1, 2027. The role blends undergraduate teaching with an active research program.

Key responsibilities

• Teach five courses per year within the trimester system, including Human Physiology, its laboratory component, and the introductory course Energy Flow in Biological Systems (BIOL126).
• Develop and lead an upper‑level seminar aligned with the candidate’s research expertise.
• Establish and maintain an undergraduate‑focused research program that contributes to the field of animal physiology.
• Collaborate with skilled technical staff to support laboratory teaching and research.
• Participate in departmental and college‑wide mentoring, cohort activities, and professional development programs.

Required profile

• Completed Ph.D. in biology or a related discipline (candidates completing by June 2027 will be considered).
• Postdoctoral experience is preferred.
• Demonstrated commitment to inclusive excellence and equity in teaching.
• Strong interest in mentoring undergraduate researchers.
