Assistant Librarian – Access Services

About the role

The Access Services Librarian will coordinate daily circulation services, manage course reserves, and facilitate collection access for both onsite and digital users. The role also includes reference desk instruction, committee service, and scholarly activities expected of a faculty librarian.

Key responsibilities

• Supervise 2‑4 part‑time access‑services staff and create semester schedules.
• Train staff in circulation tasks such as lending, lamination, binding, printing and scanning.
• Develop and maintain access‑services policies, collection statistics and circulation settings in the Alma LMS.
• Staff the reference desk 8‑12 hours per week across multiple shifts, including evenings.
• Collaborate with faculty to develop subject‑specific collections and manage library displays.
• Assist with outreach, marketing, instruction and public‑service events.

Required profile

• Master of Library Science (MLS) or Master of Library and Information Science (MLIS) from an ALA‑accredited program.
• Two years of library experience, preferably in academic access services.
• Experience managing part‑time or student employees.
• Experience providing library instruction and working at an academic reference desk.
• Ability to publish scholarly work and participate in professional conferences.

Required skills

• Proficiency with the Alma library management system (or comparable ILS).
• Knowledge of circulation policy configuration and permission settings.
