Assistant Head Chef – School (No Nights/Weekends/Holidays)

About the role

The Assistant Head Chef supports the Head Chef in running a high‑volume school kitchen, preparing meals for hundreds of students on a stable, teacher‑like schedule. The position offers full‑time weekday hours with weekends and holidays off.

Key responsibilities

• Plan and execute daily breakfast, lunch, and snack production for 300‑500 students while maintaining recipe consistency.
• Maintain a food‑safe environment, perform quality control, and ensure the kitchen meets Department of Health standards.
• Assist the Head Chef with production schedules, inventory tracking, and consumption reporting.
• Monitor temperatures, storage conditions, and overall food safety compliance.

Required profile

• At least 1 year of professional culinary experience in a fast‑paced, high‑volume kitchen.
• Associate degree in culinary arts is a plus.
• Demonstrated knowledge of food safety and sanitation practices.
• Food Handler's Certification required or obtainable within 90 days (reimbursement available).
• Excellent communication, highly organized, and passionate about school nutrition.
• Bilingual English/Spanish is a plus.
