Prep Cook – In‑School (No Weekends/Holidays) – NYC

About the role

Red Rabbit is seeking an In‑School Prep Cook to join a small team that prepares fresh, made‑from‑scratch meals for students each day. The position offers stable daytime hours, Monday‑Friday, with weekends and holidays off.

Key responsibilities

• Read daily production menus and prioritize cooking tasks with the Head Chef.
• Portion, weigh, cook, cool, and plate dishes according to Red Rabbit recipes and food‑safety guidelines.
• Pack and distribute meals to students, ensuring compliance with portion standards and school timing.
• Track production counts accurately to reduce waste and meet compliance requirements.
• Maintain a clean kitchen that exceeds Department of Health standards.

Required profile

• 2+ years of professional culinary experience in a high‑volume kitchen, commissary, or cafeteria setting.
• Reliable, self‑motivated, and able to work calmly in a fast‑moving environment.
• Ability to lift 50 lb regularly and read/write English (bilingual Spanish a plus).

Required skills

• ServeSafe certification (or obtain within 90 days, reimbursement available).
• Knowledge of proper food safety and sanitation practices.
• Familiarity with industrial kitchen equipment operation and maintenance.
