Assistant General Manager, Distribution Center

About the role

The DC Assistant General Manager ensures the success of all operational functions within a large distribution center of about 500,000+ square feet, supervising a team of DC Operations Managers covering inbound, warehouse, outbound and office operations. The role works with the General Manager to set strategies and objectives that maximize productivity and control costs, and coordinates with stores, third-party vendors and merchandising, supply chain and operations functions.

Key responsibilities

• Help evaluate and recommend improvements to work methods, procedures, controls and staffing so products move accurately and on time, and help anticipate seasonal changes and upcoming events
• Advise on financial, operational, people and process objectives to drive continuous improvement and lower cost-to-serve; may manage a 3PL provider depending on the DC
• Ensure operational excellence in warehouse areas, efficient use of warehouse management systems and equipment, safe and efficient receiving and storage, and proper layout and maintenance
• Coach and train the management team, give performance-based feedback and maintain a union-free workplace
• Enforce safety policies, monitor safety, physical security and operational metrics daily, weekly and monthly

Required profile

• Age 18 or older and legally permitted to work in the United States
• High school diploma or GED; preferred bachelor's degree in Operations Management, Business or Supply Chain
• 3 years of work experience preferred
• Flexible schedule, on-call availability, weekend and holiday work, and openness to relocation

Required skills

• Preferred: proficiency in Microsoft Outlook, Word and Excel
• Preferred: previous change management experience
