Assistant Director, Residence Life

About the role

The Assistant Director of Residence Life supports the planning, implementation, and evaluation of residential programs at Saint Louis University. This live‑off position works within the Department of Residence Life to address student needs, manage on‑call responsibilities, and collaborate with campus partners.

Key responsibilities

• Collect, track, and analyze retention and persistence data for first‑year, first‑generation, and under‑represented students.
• Coordinate Learning Community faculty recruitment, onboarding, and course registration.
• Manage Learning Community recruitment, application processing, and student assignments.
• Develop and execute a comprehensive recruitment, selection, and training plan for Resident Advisors.
• Create and deliver ongoing professional development for Resident Advisors.
• Collaborate with the Assessment Committee to use data for improving RA processes.
• Assist the Associate Director in professional staff recruitment and training initiatives.
• Communicate functional area updates to internal and external stakeholders.
• Organize resources, schedule meetings, create agendas, and lead functional area committees.
• Prepare marketing materials in partnership with Housing Operations.
• Manage program budgets and oversee purchases for the functional area.
• Build relationships with Housing, Residence Life, and other campus partners; participate in strategic planning.
• Provide supervision to a Graduate Assistant and relevant departmental committees.

Required profile

• Experience in residence life, student affairs, or related higher‑education environments.
• Demonstrated ability to collect, analyze, and apply data to improve programs.
• Strong communication and collaboration skills with diverse campus stakeholders.
• Leadership experience supervising staff or graduate assistants.
• Ability to manage budgets and coordinate complex projects with overlapping timelines.
