Assistant Director of Student Accounting and Bursar

About the role

The Assistant Director of Student Accounting and Bursar supports the Director in overseeing all student finance operations at LSU Alexandria, ensuring accurate billing, refunds, and compliance with university policies.

Key responsibilities

• Supervise cashiering operations and student workers at the Accounting Services window.
• Process weekly student refunds and maintain monthly Bursar hold lists.
• Communicate past‑due balances to students via email, text, and mailed statements.
• Run regular assessments for graduation fees, late fees, nursing drug test fees, and TOPS adjustments.
• Create and maintain fee codes, scholarship codes, and assessment rules in the student information system each semester.
• Reconcile bookstore, international insurance, and aviation course fees and submit documentation for payment.
• Prepare weekly armored‑car deposits and manage university petty cash.
• Verify documentation for tuition and fee appeals and coordinate decisions with the appeal committee.
• Assist with balance reminder lists, drop lists, and IRS 1098‑T reporting.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s preferred.
• Minimum four years of experience in accounting, financial management, or related business functions.
• Strong knowledge of student finance and accounting services.
• Excellent customer‑service orientation and communication skills.
• Ability to produce accurate reports, meet deadlines, and work effectively within a team.

Required skills

• Proficiency with the university’s student information system and Transact payment platform.
• Experience handling refunds, assessments, and financial reconciliations.
• Familiarity with IRS 1098‑T tax reporting.
