Assistant Director, First Generation Student Initiatives (STEM)

About the role

The Assistant Director, First Generation Student Initiatives (STEM) supports Georgetown University’s College of Arts & Sciences First Fellows Program. This one‑year, renewable term provides holistic academic advising, program administration, and teaching for first‑generation STEM and pre‑med students.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver one‑on‑one holistic advising to first‑gen STEM/Premed students, linking academic interests with career goals.
• Guide students in co‑curricular opportunities, internships, research, and graduate pathways.
• Assist in planning and executing signature events such as welcome ceremonies, end‑of‑year celebrations, and community‑building gatherings.
• Teach up to two sections of a 1‑credit success seminar each semester, developing course content that reflects first‑gen experiences.
• Maintain program operations, including caseload management for sophomore‑to‑senior First Fellows.

Required profile

• Experience in academic advising or student affairs, preferably with STEM or pre‑medical curricula.
• Demonstrated commitment to supporting first‑generation college students.
• Ability to coordinate events, workshops, and program logistics.
• Strong communication skills for advising, teaching, and collaboration with faculty and staff.
