Assistant Athletic Director of Communications and Operations

About the role

The Assistant Athletic Director of Communications & Operations supports the Associate Athletic Director of External Affairs in media relations, marketing, staff management and branding for the University of Maryland Eastern Shore Athletics. The role serves as the primary media liaison and gameday administrator for women’s basketball, softball, bowling and cross‑country, overseeing Sports Information Assistants and contractual gameday staff.

Key responsibilities

• Act as the main media liaison for assigned sports, handling press releases, interviews and media inquiries.
• Manage social‑media channels and the athletics website, ensuring timely and accurate content.
• Coordinate gameday operations, including facilities, equipment and event logistics.
• Collaborate with Associate Athletic Directors to promote and organize athletic program initiatives.
• Provide administrative support and on‑site coverage for events and contests as assigned.

Required profile

• Minimum two years of experience in collegiate athletics communications or related field.
• Willingness to work evenings, weekends and holidays as needed to support the program.
• Ability to supervise student assistants and contract staff.
• Strong organizational and multitasking skills.
