Area Coordinator – Residence Life

About the role

The Area Coordinator supports St. Olaf College’s Residence Life program by overseeing a residential area, fostering community development, and ensuring student wellbeing. This full‑time, on‑site position requires living in the provided on‑campus apartment.

Key responsibilities

• Recruit, select, train, and directly supervise student staff, handling performance evaluation, improvement plans, and discipline.
• Develop and deliver programming, events, and social connections that support the community development model.
• Collaborate with facilities teams, manage the residential area budget, and coordinate room inventories, changes, health‑and‑safety inspections, work orders, and damage billing.
• Maintain and update the housing and occupancy management database and support marketing and communications initiatives.
• Serve as a front‑facing presence in residence halls, participate in campus events, task forces, and new‑student orientation, and handle on‑call duties for emergencies.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree.
• Valid driver’s license with a satisfactory driving record.
• 2+ years residence‑life live‑in experience.
• 1+ year programming experience.
• Willingness to live on‑campus in the partially furnished apartment.

Required skills

• Experience with housing/occupancy management databases.
