Animal Services Technician I

About the role

Ceva is hiring an Animal Services Technician I in Lenexa, Kansas. The role provides care for animals and offers technical support to the Animal Services Department, Quality Control and Research and Development, including quality control assessments and R&D trials to produce poultry and swine vaccines. It calls for a strong commitment to animal welfare, attention to detail and a basic understanding of scientific and regulatory guidelines.

Key responsibilities

• Monitor, feed and care for animals, clean habitats and facilities, and support clinical trials and studies following SOPs
• Operate and maintain equipment, and prepare lab and study materials such as research subjects, habitat, challenge material and documentation
• Keep accurate records in line with GLP and GMP, and comply with USDA, federal, state and company regulations
• Prioritize animal welfare under AVMA, USDA and company guidelines, and perform euthanasia in accordance with AVMA guidelines
• Travel between local Ceva locations by car to cover weekends as needed (about 2% of the time)

Required profile

• High school diploma or equivalent
• Previous animal care and husbandry experience preferred, especially with poultry and/or swine
• Valid driver's license
• Able to stand 90% of a shift, lift up to 50 lbs, and work indoors and outdoors in all weather
• Exposure to animal or poultry dander, waste and odor, and possible exposure to NIH Risk Group 2 agents

Required skills

• Fundamental understanding of clinical procedures, biosecurity and biosafety
• Basic knowledge of GLP/GMP and USDA regulations
• Basic vaccination and challenge techniques, animal restraint, tagging and husbandry, and blood and tissue sampling
• Disinfection and cleaning, necropsy assistance, and data entry with standard office software
