About the role
The Animal Care Technician I supports the Division of Comparative Medicine by providing daily husbandry for laboratory animals used in biomedical research. This on‑campus position ensures animal welfare, compliance with regulations, and a clean, safe research environment.
Key responsibilities
- Perform daily husbandry tasks including handling, feeding, watering, cage changes, and health monitoring of laboratory animals.
- Follow standard operating procedures and maintain compliance with applicable laws and regulations.
- Assist with cage washing, autoclave operation, and sanitation of areas and equipment.
Required profile
- High school diploma.
- Prior experience working with animals; AALAS certification is desirable.
- Ability to lift 50 lb, work in hot or steamy environments, and perform repetitive bending, twisting, and pushing motions.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills in English to read and follow instructions.
Required skills
- Animal handling.
- Cage cleaning and sanitation.
- Autoclave operation.
- Knowledge of SOPs and regulatory compliance.
- AALAS certification (preferred).
