Analytics Engineer - Sports Modeling & Innovation

About the role

FanDuel is hiring an Analytics Engineer for its Sports Modeling & Innovation team in Jersey City, New Jersey. You will design, build, maintain and improve the data models, datasets and visualizations used by data scientists to drive business decisions. You will bridge the gap between the data and the Data Engineering team and the data scientists, analysts and other stakeholders.

Key responsibilities

• Develop pipelines for fast (sometimes real-time) data ingestion into well-designed databases (SQL, Delta Lake, etc.)
• Maintain validation pipelines that flag bad or missing data and iterate them when new databases are created
• Manage existing data transformation jobs, optimize code across codebases and troubleshoot issues
• Automate data cleaning projects on large datasets and help reduce query execution times
• Make trade-offs between memory and speed to optimize project needs
• Create and own a backlog of prioritized Tableau dashboard and R Shiny app additions

Required profile

• 3+ years of experience in an analytics or data engineering role
• 2+ years maintaining databases with a focus on improving data ingestion pipelines
• Bachelor's degree, preferably in a numerate major (Math, Stats, Econ) or relevant data analysis experience
• Strong organizational and time-management skills, ability to work in a fast-paced environment and in teams

Required skills

• Deep understanding of relational databases
• Proficiency in SQL, Databricks, R/Python, Tableau, AWS S3 buckets and command line
• Experience building data pipelines with Python/R and Databricks is a big advantage
