Agricultural Biologist - Herbicide Research

About the role

BASF Agricultural Solutions is hiring an Agricultural Biologist in Research Triangle Park, North Carolina, to join its Agricultural Solutions team. The role works closely with colleagues to plan and run greenhouse, growth chamber and laboratory experiments that support the development of new herbicide products and provide market support for commercial products. It is a permanent, on-site position.

Key responsibilities

• Design and execute herbicidal research on new active ingredients and new product concepts, and provide off-season support activities
• Maintain greenhouse plants and manage greenhouse and laboratory herbicide trials, collecting, analysing and reporting data
• Develop trial methodologies and protocols and recommend further research or product use patterns
• Identify opportunities to add value to products in the marketplace and in R&D projects regionally and globally
• Support Marketing, Sales and external customers with information, materials, training and presentations
• Supervise and train temporary staff or interns
• Manage Responsible Care (RC) Program components such as chemical inventory and genetic resources, and contribute to JSA/SOP development

Required profile

• MS or BS degree in an agricultural field; MS with up to 1 year of relevant greenhouse or field experience, or BS with 3-5 years of relevant experience
• Applied experience and knowledge of agronomic practices and crop protection research methods
• Strong analytical, written and verbal communication skills
• Ability to travel less than 5% of the time, domestically
• Preferred: hands-on experience propagating and managing weeds and crops, herbicide trial experience, weed identification and herbicide chemistry knowledge, herbicide resistance screening experience, and knowledge of North American crops such as corn, soybean, cotton, rice and wheat
