Afterschool Group Leader

About the role

The Afterschool Group Leader works under the supervision of the Site Director/Program Administrator to plan and deliver a safe, engaging, and developmentally appropriate curriculum for school‑age children. The role bridges classroom learning with after‑school support, helping students succeed academically and socially.

Key responsibilities

• Design and implement group curricula that foster cognitive growth, self‑awareness, peer relationships, and character development.
• Provide homework assistance and communicate regularly with families.
• Maintain a safe, healthy, and welcoming environment that meets EEC licensing standards.
• Collaborate with the Site Director on program space design, assessments, and progress reporting.
• Promote healthy living, social responsibility, and youth development in line with YMCA mission.

Required profile

• Either a Bachelor’s/Associate’s degree with three months experience with school‑age children, or a high school diploma with six months experience (including three months supervised).
• Alternatively, nine months of experience with at least three months supervised in a child‑care setting.
• Commitment to child safety, positive guidance methods, and adherence to YMCA and licensing regulations.
• Ability to support children’s social, emotional, physical, cognitive, and language development.
