Advanced Practice Registered Nurse – Medicine, Hematology/Oncology

About the role

The Advanced Practice Provider (APP) joins the University of Miami’s oncology service line to deliver comprehensive medical care to patients with hematologic and oncologic conditions. Working in both acute and outpatient settings, the APP conducts independent examinations, prescribes treatments, and coordinates care across multiple locations.

Key responsibilities

• Perform complete physical examinations and comprehensive health histories for oncology patients.
• Order, interpret, and act on diagnostic and therapeutic tests appropriate to patient age and condition.
• Prescribe pharmacologic and non‑pharmacologic treatment modalities, including chemotherapy protocols.
• Provide CTU (Chemotherapy Treatment Unit) coverage, including on‑call and cross‑coverage for main and satellite sites.
• Educate new and ongoing oncology patients about treatment plans and self‑care.
• Collaborate with physicians, multidisciplinary teams, and support staff to ensure seamless patient transitions.
• Participate in hospital committees, quality improvement projects, and survivorship programs.
• Mentor staff, serve as a role model, and help standardize advanced practice processes.

Required profile

• Current licensure as a Registered Nurse with Advanced Practice credentials.
• Experience in hematology/oncology care, including chemotherapy administration.
• Ability to work independently, make clinical decisions, and prescribe medications.
• Strong collaboration skills with physicians, nurses, and allied health professionals.
• Commitment to patient education, safety, and continuous quality improvement.
