Advanced Practice Provider – Pediatric PICU (PRN)

About the role

The Cleveland Clinic Health System seeks an experienced Advanced Practice Provider (NP or PA) to support the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) on a PRN basis. This role involves delivering acute care to critically ill children, collaborating with a multidisciplinary team, and ensuring high‑quality patient outcomes.

Key responsibilities

• Obtain comprehensive histories, perform physical examinations, and order/interpret laboratory, radiology, and other diagnostic tests.
• Provide routine and specialized procedures as credentialed, prescribe and monitor medications within scope of practice, and participate in medical team rounds.
• Educate patients and families about diagnoses, treatments, and medication side effects.
• Facilitate discharge planning, length‑of‑stay management, and continuity of care across specialties.
• Participate in quality monitoring, evidence‑based practice translation, and may assist with research and data collection.

Required profile

• Nationally certified Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant with current state licensure.
• Minimum of a Master’s degree in an accredited APRN or PA program; neonatal care candidates must hold a Master’s degree upon hire.
• At least one year of post‑graduate clinical experience in pediatric acute or critical care (no new graduates).
• Active DEA registration (if prescribing) and required supervision agreements.

Required skills

• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
• Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) or Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS); Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) or Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS) as applicable.
• Proficiency with electronic medical record systems.
• Ability to perform and interpret common laboratory, radiologic, and cardiographic diagnostics.
