Advanced Practice Provider – Cardiovascular Surgical ICU

About the role

The Department of Intensive Care and Resuscitation at Cleveland Clinic Health System seeks an experienced Acute Care Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant to join the Cardiovascular Surgical ICU team. The role involves managing critically ill in‑patients, collaborating with physicians, residents, fellows and staff anesthesiologists across day, night and weekend shifts.

Key responsibilities

• Obtain comprehensive histories, perform physical examinations and order appropriate diagnostic tests.
• Interpret laboratory, radiology and cardiographic results to develop diagnoses and treatment plans.
• Perform routine procedures such as injections, suturing, wound care, bone‑marrow aspirations, biopsies, IV starts, spinal taps, thoracentesis and paracentesis.
• Prescribe and monitor medications within state and Cleveland Clinic policy.
• Participate in multidisciplinary rounds, discharge planning and quality monitoring.

Required profile

• MSN (or equivalent) for APRN or Master’s in Physician Assistant Studies; graduate of an accredited program.
• Current state licensure as NP or PA, with national certification.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification; Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) or Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) as required.

Required skills

• Bone‑marrow aspiration and biopsy techniques.
• IV catheter placement and management.
• Spinal tap, thoracentesis and paracentesis procedures.
• Medication prescribing and monitoring within scope of practice.
