Admissions Counselor

About the role

Alice L. Walton School of Medicine (AWSOM), a nonprofit four-year MD program founded in 2021, is seeking an Admissions Counselor. Reporting to the Director of Admissions, the counselor supports student recruitment goals and represents the school to prospective students and pre-health advisors. The position can be performed remotely for student recruitment or professional development events.

Key responsibilities

• Represent AWSOM at national, regional and local medical school fairs and conferences, virtually and in person.
• Coordinate recruitment events and travel, including outreach to organizations and programs, and help host on-campus and virtual admissions events.
• Deliver presentations on the program, admissions process and expectations to prospective students and the wider community.
• Screen applications and maintain accurate, timely communication with applicants and constituents while following admission policies.
• Serve as a primary contact for prospective students on admissions questions, criteria, curriculum and student services.
• Perform other duties as assigned, including administrative tasks such as preparing documentation, reporting data and communicating with applicants.
• Attend conferences and workshops to stay informed on medical education, recruitment and admissions trends.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree.
• Two years of admissions, student recruitment and/or student affairs experience.
• Experience working with or supporting health professions students.
• Ability to travel in and out of state and work occasional evening and weekend hours for special events.
• Must maintain an ongoing, insurable driving record.

Required skills

• Excellent oral and written communication and exceptional customer service skills.
• Strong organizational skills, attention to detail and ability to work independently or with minimal supervision.
• Proficiency in the Microsoft Suite: Word, spreadsheets, PowerPoint and databases.
