ACFR Internal Controls Analyst

About the role

The ACFR Internal Controls Analyst supports the Governor’s Office of Management and Budget (GOMB) in overseeing the financial audit of the State of Illinois Annual Comprehensive Financial Report (ACFR). Working from the state capital, the analyst collaborates with internal control specialists, auditors, and agency personnel to ensure accurate financial reporting.

Key responsibilities

• Respond to internal control inquiries from the Office of the Attorney General, Special Assistant Auditor, and various state agencies.
• Develop an understanding of material transaction flows for agencies under the Governor’s jurisdiction.
• Provide technical assistance and guidance to agencies on changes affecting internal control over financial reporting.
• Participate in agency audit entrance, status, and exit conferences as directed by the ACFR IC Unit Director.
• Help develop and evaluate internal control templates and processes in collaboration with agency management.

Required profile

• Experience in governmental financial audit or internal control environments.
• Strong analytical skills and ability to interpret complex financial data.
• Effective communication skills for interacting with auditors and agency staff.

• Knowledge of internal control frameworks and financial reporting standards.
• Familiarity with audit procedures and documentation.
